My Latest Read

Royal RomancesForget about wasting your time reading 50 Shades of Grey, as the truly salacious stories of illicit romances can be found in my latest and most intriguing read to date entitled Royal Romances by Leslie Carroll.

If you’re as curious as me when it comes to living life as a European monarch, this book spans through seven scandalous and seductive centuries telling “titillating tales of passion and power in the palaces of Europe”. There are chapters on Charles VII, Henri II, Louis XIV, Louis XV, Catherine The Great (Catherine II), Marie Antoinette, Napoleon Bonaparte and many more. The word notorious just doesn’t do some of these monarchs justice. Intrigued yet? I literally haven’t been able to stop reading!

In The Sun

The Beach- Rayong Thailand

Some call this paradise, I call it home. I guess having lived in Bangkok and traveling extensively has slightly acclimatized me to scenery such as this but the truth is, it never gets old.

Spaghetti Penne with Pesto

Sun, water, and good food, all enjoyed in the great company of my nearest and dearest, what else could one possibly need? Pasta penne with fresh pesto sauce, cherry tomatoes, cashews, and basil topped off with parmesan cheese. It’s a terrific and super easy dish to make at home and enjoy yourselves!

Lime Soda Recipe

The Beach, Rayong ThailandIf you’re craving a change from the classic fruity beach cocktails and mocktails then why not quench your thirst by trying out this refreshing lime soda? It’s one of my favorite alternates to be enjoyed on hot and sweaty days.

Ingredients: 1/3 cup (90 ml) fresh lime juice, 1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar syrup *more or less depending on your taste preference, pinch of salt (optional), ice, about 1/2 cup (125 ml) soda water

The Recipe makes about 1 1/4 (300 ml): * Salty-sweet combinations in drinks (and food) are especially relished in Thailand, hence the optional inclusion of salt. To Westerners, this may be an acquired taste. But if you’re feeling brave, why not give it a go?

In a small jug or stylish decanter, combine lime juice, sugar syrup to taste, and salt if using. Stir to blend. Pour into a glass packed with ice. Add soda water to top off (I really recommend it), plus additional sugar syrup if you like.

If you’re also curious to try the dangerously addictive sugar syrup, don’t say I didn’t warn you…

Ingredients: 1 cup (250 ml) granulated (white) sugar, 1 cup (250 ml) water

The Recipe makes about 1 1/4 cups (300 ml):

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine sugar and water, stirring just until sugar dissolves. Once the sugar dissolves, stop stirring, increase heat, and bring the water to a boil. Continue boiling for 3 minutes without stirring. Do not let the syrup crystallize. Brush the pan side with a brush dipped in cold water. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Pour into a jar, cover, and refrigerate indefinitely.

The recipes can be found in the book Thai Home Cooking if you’re curious to try more. Enjoy!

Escape

The Beach, Rayong ThailandJust like Rupert Holmes in his song Escape (The Piña Colada Song) I too “like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain. I’m not much into health food, I am into champagne” and now I’ve even made my escape.

The Beach, Rayong Thailand

The Beach, Rayong ThailandI’ve left my dear กรุงเทพมหานคร (Bangkok) behind and have headed down to the coast of ระยอง (Rayong) to catch some serious rays & waves.

The Beach, Rayong ThailandConsider this my unconventional Christmas postcard to all of you- my lovely and dedicated readers. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Getting an Early Start in กรุงเทพมหานคร

CappuccinoGetting an early start to my morning by indulging in a large tasty cup of cappuccino.

Bangkok, กรุงเทพมหานครI’ve now temporarily relocated to กรุงเทพมหานคร (Bangkok, Thailand) where I’ll be enjoying an escape away from the cold winter temperatures. We all hibernate in different ways and this winter my hibernation will include sipping piña coladas and basking in the sun.
